Describes the founding of the middle colonies beginning in 1609 when Henry Hudson was hired by the Dutch to find a trade route to Asia, but instead found an area which is now New York City. The program describes the expansion of the middle colonies to include Delaware, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania. It also explains how the middle colonies were an attractive area to settle because of fertile soils, river systems, and job opportunities.
