States that the changing traits that allow a species to survive are referred to as adaptations, and teaches that traits for successful survival and reproduction in a new environment become more common and traits that do not support survival become less common. The segment provides the peppered moth as an excellent example of an adaptation occurring in response to the Industrial Revolution.
